Satan

A "fallen angel"?

There's a certain phrase that is casually repeated by people regarding Satan...

"Satan was a fallen angel."

Is this true?  Do we have enough plain, easy-to-understand, clear scripture to support this saying and teaching?  Is there sufficient, ample, overwhelming scriptural evidence?

Perhaps some things to seriously consider are thus...

“...no lie is of the truth”

1 John 2:21

Folks, of late this is of a truth one of me favorite, rock-solid verses which speak to me like, "You better not be ignorant Ben."

Why do people seemingly "latch" on to sayings, jump on the bandwagon per se, and take no thought into what they mean nor where they come from?  If a subtle lie is told consistently and often enough, does it at some point begin to be accepted as truth?  Do we ever question the vernacular we use and the occasional rhetoric we repeat that we've picked up from others?  Are we willing to un-learn ideas we've adopted, and "become as little children" (Mt 18:3), and start over with a "clean slate" in our understanding? If the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom (Psalms 111:10; Proverbs 1:7, 9:10), is it still not just that, the beginning?  Does it not stay or remain at the very beginning of what our new life ought to be about?

Perhaps we ought to allow the living word of God to speak for itself by way of certain excerpts to help prepare our frame of mind...

“...we have not followed cunningly devised fables”

2 Peter 1:16

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

(Exodus 20:16)

“Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

(Deuteronomy 5:20)

“He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,”

(Matthew 19:18)

“Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.”

(Mark 10:19)

“Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.”

(Luke 18:20)

“For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

(Romans 13:9)

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

(John 8:44)

Notice, Jesus said "he IS a liar", not he "became" a liar.  He said the devil "abode not in the truth" - well then how could he have ever been abiding in Heaven with God???  “He was a murderer from the beginning...” - an interesting thought, did the devil do any killing in Heaven?  How is this thought plausible or even remotely possible given what Christ Himself said regarding the angels of heaven?

“Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.”

(Luke 20:36)

“Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”

(1 Timothy 6:16)

So Satan was able to approach unto HIM in heaven???

“And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?”

(Matthew 12:26)

So you see then that the angels of God in heaven can't die, which might beg the question... do God's holy angels sin?  Something certainly worth considering as we think upon and greatly admire the Most High Almighty God of all, world without end.

Was Satan at first, immortal, then lost it?  If that's the case, then immortality isn't immortal, and what hope is there in that??? What hope have we???

“Let no man deceive himself.”

(1 Corinthians 3:18)

“Let no man deceive you with vain words”

(Ephesians 5:6)

“Let no man deceive you by any means”

(2 Thessalonians 2:3)

“Little children, let no man deceive you...”

(1 John 3:7)

“Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived...”

(Deuteronomy 11:16)

“...Take heed that ye be not deceived”

(Luke 21:8)

“Be not deceived”

(1 Corinthians 6:9)

“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

(1 Corinthians 15:33)

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

(Galatians 6:7)

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

(1 Corinthians 14:33)

Do we run the risk of casting God and the heavenly realm in a bad light with careless, haphazard speaking, to give the impression that sin and rebellion can originate from there??? (think Nadab & strange fire) Shouldst we be dreadfully careful what's uttered concerning God?

Is Satan full-well capable of manifesting, promulgating, a lie even of himself???

“Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”

1 Timothy 6:16

They are likely to say,

"But here's the verse that shows they were cast out of heaven!"

“I know whom I have believed”

2 Timothy 1:12

“choose you this day whom ye will serve”

Joshua 24:15

Perhaps in the same vein, we can have the same attitude.  Yes, we all have God-given free will. And no matter how much scriptural backing we muster up in support of what we believe, there may be some that will flat-out denounce our stance. Something tells me I best commit meself unto the One that judgeth righteously.

“Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to HIM that judgeth righteously”

1 Peter 2:23

“But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear HIM, which after HE hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear HIM.”

Luke 12:5

Here's a Bible study on the origin of Satan by late pastor Wesley Walker.
